Restaurant De Stokerij in Ghent, Belgium - Travel Eat Enjoy Repeat

De Stokerij is one of the most beautiful restaurants in Ghent, especially on the inside. They serve traditional brasserie style dishes with the menu changing very often. I like that they also serve a decent amount of inventive vegetarian dishes. De Stokerij has also an extensive beer selection and gives a suggestion for every dish on the menu (even desserts). If you are more of a wine lover, a large number of wines are available per glass.

I think something special to mention is that in Belgium in February there is ‘tournee minerale’. With this challenge, people don’t drink alcohol for the entire month of February. The friend I was with is participating in this and we were pleasantly surprised that they offered a number of non-alcoholic drinks because of this challenge. They however also have very good homemade lemonade all the time. We both ordered pimento, a drink made with ginger, tonic, and chili. This was certainly something special and very tasty.

I like to order vegetarian dishes because for me it shows how inventive a chef is (the same goes for salads). The quinoa salad with goat cheese and pumpkin was my order for the evening. And oh boy, that was one huge portion and an appealing presentation. It was such a tasty dish with a lot of different flavours and textures.

But there is always room for dessert. I ordered the lemon pie with meringue and some lemon sorbet. The pie was tasty with not a too sharp lemon flavour and balanced nicely with the sweet crust and meringue. A perfect ending to this weekday dinner.

If you are in Ghent, definitely have dinner here. Not only for the amazing food and friendly service but also for the wide selection of vegetarian dishes and the extensive beer selection. Reservation is advisable, especially during weekends.
