Best tapas in Barcelona: where to eat them?

When in Barcelona, you must eat tapas at least one time. Or two times or just every day. Before telling you where to eat the best tapas in Barcelona, I just want to explain why I love the concept of tapas. You order different tapas from the menu and you share them with your table-companions. No need for everybody ordering a portion of patatas bravas. The tapas are served one at a time and in no particular order. Perfect to try a lot of different things.

Although very tempting, try not to order too much in the beginning. You can always order more.

But where to eat the best tapas in Barcelona?

Mino

Where: Raval (Carrer del Carme 19)

Definitely try: cava sangria + pimientos de padron

Website

Mino is a very beautiful little restaurant in one of the side streets of La Ramblas. The stone walls make it a very cosy restaurant full of character. The service was very fast and friendly. Definitely order the cava sangria, it is the best we had during our stay in Barcelona. They are not stingy with the alcohol. Also, the pimientos de padron are perfect: a little bit charred with a decent amount of sea salt sprinkled on top.

Cerveceria Catalana

Where: Eixample (c/Mallorca 236)

Definitely try: Patatas Bravas

Website

You will never be alone when you are going to Cerveceria Catalana. Not only tourists but also locals find their way into this big tapas restaurant. This is not the place to have a quiet and long meal. Service is fast, especially since there is always a line of people waiting to get in. This fast service is perfect for when you are in a rush but not so much if you just want to enjoy a nice dinner. The soft and crunchy patatas bravas were excellent. The spicy sauce together with the garlic sauce, just perfect.

Tosca del Carme

Where: Raval (Carrer del Carme 40)

Definitely try: empanada

Website

Not far from Mino, you can find Tosca del Carme. The outside area is perfect: nice and quiet compared to the busy La Ramblas. They don’t only have the regular tapas on the menu but also some more special ones. And of course, those are the ones we want to taste. The empanada filled Spinach, cream cheese, mozzarella and pine nuts was crunchy on the outside with a creamy filling with a hint of salt. More of a meat lover? Have the Danish style meatballs with almond sauce

Casa Angela

Where: Eixample (Plaça de la Sagrada Familia 13 & 15)

Definitely try: gazpacho

Website

At Casa Angela, you can have lunch with a view on Sagrada Familia. I am always hesitant about restaurants near major tourist attractions but this one was definitely not a tourist trap. The silky smooth gazpacho has a good and fresh tomato flavour. It is accompanied with some diced onion and bell pepper. Also, the Catalan classic, Pa amb tomàquet, is excellent here.
