Damme, a little city near Bruges is perfect for a short stop. From Bruges, you can take the boat every hour or rent a bike and bike along the canal.
There is also a working windmill that you can visit for free, which I think is quite uncommon. We had perfect weather when we arrived but soon, the thunder clouds came over the city. This was our cue to go home.
