One day in Luxembourg City - Travel Eat Enjoy Repeat

One day in Luxembourg City

Luxembourg City or in short Luxembourg is the capital of (the Grand Duchy of) Luxembourg. Its name finds its origin in Lucilinburhuc, meaning little fortress. I don’t know why we waited this long to visit Luxembourg, as it is only a 2-hour car ride away from Brussels.

The city originated from a castle built in 963 on top of the Bock Rock.

What can you do in 1 day when visiting Luxembourg?

Wenzel circular walk

We decided to do a self-guided tour around the city by following the Wenzel circular walk.

This 5.5km walk guides you through the rich history of Luxembourg City.

The walk starts at the Bock Promontory and continues via the Wenzel Wall. The walk ends in the Grund District where you can enjoy a drink or just return back to the city center.

This walk gives some amazing views over the city and the fortifications. After the start, you will soon leave the “busy” city center and enjoy the green parts of the city.

Chocolate House

I just love chocolate, but who doesn’t? So when I heard that there was a Chocolate House in Luxembourg City, there was no doubt that we had to stop there.

Luxembourg City

On its terrace, directly opposite the Grand Ducal Palace, you can enjoy cakes, coffee, and hot chocolate. In fact, the Chocolate House became famous because of the more than 50 different kinds of chocolate spoons. You put these in hot milk to make hot chocolate. It was almost summer, so I skipped the hot chocolate.

What I didn’t skip was a piece of homemade chocolate cake. You can choose from a lot of different ones inside. It was so hard to choose, I just wanted to try them all.

At the Chocolate House, you can also have lunch without chocolate or just a cup of coffee.

The Chocolate House is perfect to have a break when you are exploring Luxembourg City. And from the terrace, you have a nice view of the guard changing at the Grand Ducal Palace.

Luxembourg City is the perfect city to spend a day: a rich history that shows throughout the city, nice shops and cozy squares with bars and restaurants.
