De Stokerij is one of the most beautiful restaurants in Ghent, especially on the inside. They serve traditional brasserie style dishes with the menu changing very often. I like that they also serve a decent amount of inventive vegetarian dishes. De Stokerij has also an extensive beer selection and gives a suggestion for every dish on the menu (even desserts). If you are more of a wine lover, a large number of wines are available per glass.
In Blaasveld, near Mechelen, you can visit distillery de Molenberg, where the Gouden Carolus single malt whiskey is distilled. The base of this whiskey is the mash of Gouden Carolus Tripel beer made in the brewery Het Anker in Mechelen.
With a group of friends we went to ‘t Fonduehuisje in Leuven. Here they serve Swiss meat and cheese fondue, as well as raclette or Swiss Chinese fondue. We decided to have gourmet which came with unlimited meat together with sauces, french fries, and salad. This kind of dinners is always nice because I think it is a cosy way of being with friends, especially when it is cold outside.
Being born and raised in Aalst (Belgium), I really have to promote its ´world-famous’ carnival. Although not as famous as the carnival in Rio or Venice it still attracts around 90000 people to the parade on Sunday each year. If you are in Belgium around that time, you must come and celebrate carnival in Aalst. It is a special and fantastic experience.
Last time when we were in Paris, the food at the restaurants was terrible. The big mistake we made is not researching good restaurants. We learned our lesson this time and did some research in advance by using Tripadvisor and a huge amount of blog posts. A nice feature of Tripadvisor is that you can book a table in advance for a large number of restaurants in Paris. Although this was not always necessary, we wanted to be on the safe side.
