With Photo Sunday I want to share beautiful shots with a story.
This week’s photo is from Chris from the Amateur Traveler. The Amateur Traveler is a 11+ year old, award winning podcast and blog. Each week we talk about a different travel destination.
One of the highlights of my travels this year was a boat ride in the hazy early morning light in the Ganges River at the holy city of Varanasi in India. On the shore, you pass dozens of areas where the city meets the river with a series of steps called a ghat. The Hindu faithful come down to the river to pray at sunrise and sunset and to bathe in the waters in between. At a couple of the ghats, the bodies of the dead are burned alongside the river with a belief this will end the cycle of reincarnation where life struggles. Offshore boats of local and international tourism watch all this. Sometimes they add their prayers to those of the faithful on shore as they float small candles in boats on the river.
