Vogafjos is located in Myvatn in the Nothern part of Iceland. After all the camping food, it was time to fill our bellies with some good food.
When you walk up to the restaurant, you can see the cows lying in their stables. So you immediately know that they will work with very fresh products.
Walking into the restaurant revealed a wide and open space with an amazing view outside.
After studying the menu, we decided to take the 3-course menu starting with a variety of house specialties: smoked salmon, mozzarella made from their own milk, and smoked lamb. Especially the lamb was delicious, my absolute favorite.
The main course was lamb: a very good portion served with baked potatoes and a salad. The meat was so soft that it melted in your mouth. I think this is the best lamb dish I have ever eaten.
Dessert was a warm chocolate cake with homemade ice cream. I don’t know if the center of the cake should be runny, but unfortunately, it wasn’t. This made the cake a little bit dry.
We had a very good dinner at Vogafjos, but there was only one downside: the speed of the serving. When you have a 3-course meal, you expect to be in the restaurant for more than one hour. Especially for the amount of money you are spending. Everything was very rushed: more American style dining speed and less European style dining speed. This really was a shame.
