Checking in: Upstairs Hotel in Ostend (Belgium)

The Upstairs hotel in Ostend (Belgium) is the new kid in town. It has the perfect location: at downtown Ostend and very close to the beautiful beach.

The outside of the Upstairs Hotel already shows the special and industrial look. And this look was also continued on the inside.

The rooms

We booked a small room with a view on the patio (aka no view at all). We didn’t think that the room was that small, we had smaller rooms in the past that weren’t advertised as such. And we don’t have the intention of spending much time in our room anyway: we are here to discover Ostend.

The rooms were decorated beautifully and functional. The industrial look is very present: I especially liked the brick wall and the lamp. The bed was heaven by the way. And what do you think of this bottle of water?

The bathroom was small but functional. I wasn’t a big fan of the cardboard cups, I prefer glasses. But of course, there was also shampoo and body lotion.

Breakfast

We only had breakfast once during our stay at Upstairs hotel because it is very convenient: for 15 euros you can join the extensive breakfast buffet. There is a big variety in pastries, bread, sweet and savoury toppings, fresh fruit and yoghurt. The big choices in foods were outweighed by the lack of seats. We really had to look for a place and wait until people left. This is a pity because you feel you are having breakfast in a refractory.

Conclusion

For us, The Upstairs hotel was perfect to explore Ostend for a weekend: ideal location and beautiful rooms. What more would you want?

The breakfast buffet is very convenient but there are more places in Ostend to enjoy a delicious breakfast.
