Visit Hallerbos in Belgium

The Hallerbos looks like every other forest in Flanders at first sight. But this all changes Mid April. Then the Hallerbos becomes something fairylike: a beautiful purple carpet of bluebells.

Every year around this period, people from far and near come to Halle to see this beautiful natural phenomenon.

Hallerbos

At the website of the Hallerbos, you can find a number of hiking maps. The Bluebell trail will bring you right into the heart of these beautiful purple flowers. The paths are well maintained and easy to follow.

Please stay on the tracks because if you destroy a flower, no flower will grow at that spot the next years.

Hallerbos

Of course, you can walk all year round it the Hallerbos, but the bluebells are only blooming from Mid April until Mid May. The website of the Hallerbos lets you follow the blossoming of the bluebells. This way you can decide when to come to the Hallerbos.

How to come to the Hallerbos? In the busy weekends, there is a bus driving between Halle and the Hallerbos every 30 minutes. If you do decide to come by car, you can park at parking 1 and 11. Or you can come by train with a b-daytrip combining the train with a rental bike.

It is fun to see how big of a deal the bluebells are: bluebell busses come and go, cars park wherever they want, and people living in the neighbourhood sell parking spots in their yard. Everything is possible during the bluebell period.

Did you see the blue forest of Belgium?
