Where to eat in Reykjavik - Travel Eat Enjoy Repeat

It was a total surprise that we had such good food while we were in Reykjavik. I don’t know why I thought otherwise. And also pretty expensive food 🙂 but that is just Iceland.

There were many restaurants to choose from in Reykjavik so we used some help from friends and other travel bloggers to decide where we should eat. We, or at least I, wanted to eat at least some fish while there.

I want to share some restaurant in Reykjavik that you certainly have to try while you are there.

Where to eat?

Potturinn og Pannan

Potturinn og Pannan is not located in the city center but it is still advisable to make a reservation. We were lucky to have the last table available. This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend and it didn’t disappoint. This restaurant is popular with travel groups, so it can be a little bit loud and busy.

I had the mixed seafood gratin with haddock, prawns, lobster, and scallops served with garlic bread. My boyfriend is more a meat person so he had grilled lamb with bearnaise sauce and a baked potato. Both dishes were delicious and a very decent portion.

Reykjavik Fish

When in Iceland, you have to eat fish and chips. The fish can’t be fresher than here. At Reykjavik Fish we ordered two portions of fish and chips with some tartar sauce and jalapeno sauce. You have to order at the counter and they will bring it to your table. I liked the decoration of the restaurant with a lot of eye for detail.

The fish was nice and crispy and not soggy at al. The portion could be a little bit bigger on the other hand. We are big eaters but this was perfect for lunch.

Public House – Gastropub

Public House is a pub recommended by a few other travel bloggers and it has very good reviews. All the food are small portions to share, so more tapas style. We opted for the fixed menu they were serving at the moment, finishing off with some cake. Everything was so good but my favorite was the slider in the steamed bun.

Laundromat café

Laundromat café is one of the more cheap restaurants to eat in Reykjavik. But the portions are huge. My spicy tuna sandwich was delicious but I had to leave the fries on the plate. I was stuffed. It wasn’t the best idea to have this the same evening of the food tour.

You can find some pretty amazing food while you are in Reykjavik. There is a huge variety of different cuisines so there is something for everyone. I recommend to at least have fish one time while you are in Reykjavik.

If you want to have typical Icelandic specialties, you can book a food tour. We had an amazing time and tasted amazing foods.
