What to do in Pisa

If I say Pisa, the first thing that comes to mind is the leaning tower. And it is indeed the main attraction of the city.

The leaning tower of Pisa is actually the bell tower of the cathedral and it is just one of the many architectural beauties at the Piazza del Duomo or Piazza dei Miracoli (Squares of Miracles). Next to the leaning tower, you will also find the Duomo itself, the Baptistery and the Campo Santo or monumental cemetery.

It is especially funny to see all the people taking funny pictures with the tower of Pisa.

You can also climb the tower, but tickets are limited. So it is advised to buy them online in advance. For 18 euro you can climb the almost 300 steps to the top of the bell tower. On top, you have a beautiful view over the Square of Miracles. You can also visit 1 additional monument (baptistery, Camposanto or Museum) for 5 euro extra, 2 additional monuments (7 euro) or 3 additional monuments (8 euro).

A visit to the Cathedral is free but like in every church in Italy, you have to be dressed appropriately. This means covered shoulders and knees.

But you can also do a walk along the river Arno, or just wander around the streets of the city. It is not big but it can be very busy. This in contrast to Lucca, which is not far from here.

Where to park?

You can park your car for free at the Via Paparelli. From there, it is an 18 min walk to the Tower of Pisa.

Where to eat?

We had an amazing lunch at Il Ristoro della Pe’ (Via Giosuè Carducci), not far from the Tower. This small restaurant serves freshly made pasta with some daily suggestions. The fresh gnocchi and pasta carbonara were delicious. Very friendly services and we loved the open style kitchen.
